First Quarter News: A Novel Deal and an Anthology
The first 3 months of 2020 have certainly been a wild ride, what with a major pandemic being foremost on everyone’s mind. I was supposed to go on the JoCo cruise this year, but I forfeit the trip over COVID-19 concerns. Luckily I had plenty of work to cheer me up, including edits for my debut novel, Machinehood, and my first time editing an anthology, for Escape Pod’s 15th anniversary.
At the end of January, I was able to announce that I’ve signed a deal with Saga Press for the publication of my first full-length novel, Machinehood, which will be out in March, 2021. Yes, it’s a long wait, but I hope it’ll be worth it! The novel - a techno/political thriller - is set in 2095 and explores a gig economy future, automated labor, tabletop biotechnology, and questions about sentience and intelligence. To all my friend who’ve asked when my work in artificial intelligence will make it into my fiction, this book is the answer!
In other big news, Escape Pod announced our first ever anthology, collecting stories from authors whose works have graced the podcast or, in the case of Sarah Gailey, who have graduated from our staff. In honor of Escape Pod’s 15th Anniversary this year, we’ve teamed up with Titan Publications to bring you this book in print and ebook. Mur Lafferty and I are co-editors, just as we are with Escape Pod. The anthology releases in October, 2020, but you can pre-order it now!
